Over 850 residents of Mahul heaved a sigh of relief on Friday as they were handed keys to new houses far from the polluted place. The Ghar Banao Ghar Bachao Andolan Samiti has shortlisted residents who are in immediate need of shifting due to grave medical conditions. On Friday, the keys to new tenements at Gorai and Malad were given to these people, in various development and infrastructure projects.
Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray has been coordinating with MHADA and SRA authorities to finalise a list of PAP tenements. After a wait of over a year the minister has allotted 288 and 584 houses from MHADA and SRA respectively to residents listed by the Samiti. The BMC has allotted 5,550 homes to PAPs in Malad and 3,500 families stay there. A civic official said, "The M west ward office distributed keys to residents of Mahul on Friday."
