Even as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) started vaccinating frontline workers on Thursday, the response was not that great. Though the civic body sent messages to 8,064 people, about 4,331 turned up for the vaccination. Of these, only 58 were frontline workers and 3,500 were walk-in health care workers.
However, the corporation added six more vaccination centres on Thursday, with which the number of centres and booths reached 18 and 105 respectively. "The BMC has started vaccinating frontline workers, but only 58 turned up on the first day. We are trying to create awareness regarding the new service, as per which registered frontline workers can go to any centre for vaccination," said Dr Mangla Gomare, executive health officer of the BMC. A total of 1.6 lakh frontline workers are registered with the corporation. The vaccination centres that have been added by the BMC include Maa Hospital, Kasturba hospital, Centenary Govandi hospital, Dahisar jumbo facility, SK Patil hospital and BARC.
The maximum number of vaccinations was done at Nair hospital (614) followed by Rajawadi hospital (603) in Ghatkopar. The JJ hospital vaccinated 70 people. Till Thursday, 495 health care workers received Covaxin at JJ hospital.
