The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to set up its own oxygen bottling plant to fill jumbo cylinders, which will be set up at the cost of Rs 21 crore. It will be near BPCL, Mahul.
As part of measures for the possible third Covid-19 wave, the corporation has worked on various projects. To ensure an uninterrupted supply of oxygen, the administration has put up the proposal of a new oxygen bottling plant, which will be tabled in the standing committee meeting on Wednesday.
The BMC currently recharges cylinders from oxygen suppliers' plants at Rabale and Turbhe. BPCL has agreed to supply about 10 MT to 15 MT oxygen per day to the oxygen bottling plant through a pipeline.
The corporation plans to use the oxygen at the plant to fill 1,500 oxygen cylinders with a capacity of 7.1 cubic meters per day during emergencies.
The construction of the plant will be completed within three months of receiving the work order. The contractor will take care of maintenance and transport for five years.
