A proosal to start 10 more Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools from the academic year 2021-2022 was sanctioned in the education committee meeting of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday. Last year, the corporation had started a CBSE school in Jogeshwari and an ICSE school in Mahim.

"Though the response was good for both the schools, education officers and parents feel the curriculum of the CBSE is simpler than ICSE. So we will start more schools of CBSE pattern. We will definitely start schools of other education boards in coming years," said Sainath Durge, member of BMC's education committee.

As per the proposal in the education committee, two CBSE schools will start in P-North ward (Malad) and one each in G-North (Dadar), F-North (Matunga-Sion), K-West (Andheri-Jogeshwari), L (Sakinaka, Chandivali), N (Ghatkopar), M-East (Chembur), S (Vikhroli) and T(Mulund). According to the plan, the schools were supposed to begin classes from junior KG to std VI in the first year and then go upto graduation level. "We suggested starting the schools from the nursery level like the other schools. It is a good step to give quality education," said Sandhya Doshi, chairperson of the education committee.

BMC will give advertisements in the newspaper for admissions. The admission for 90 per cent seats will be given by lottery draws. At least 5 per cent seats will be given as per the recommendation of the mayor and rest 5 per cent seats will be reserved for the children of BMC employees. The students will get all the facilities like in other schools of the BMC.
