The National Award for âWater Purity', which is given annually by the renowned Indian Water Works Association of India, specially to local self-governing bodies for improving the quality of water through technology, efficient administration and high quality management in the field of water supply, was awarded to the BMC.
The water department in the Mumbai region has undergone radical changes and improvements through modern technology over the last few years. The civic body has found and repaired leaks at almost 1.75 lakh places, said civic officials. While work was in progress at various places, 89,908 service connections were replaced.
Due to various measures taken up by the Department of Hydraulic Engineers in the last five years, the quality and purity of water has increased to 99.34 per cent in the year 2019-20. There were 47 parameters through which the water testing was done and it has passed through all the standards.
