Even as the BMC has increased its vaccination capacity, the response continues to be less than what is expected. On Thursday, 9,237 people, 82 per cent of the total target, received the vaccine. Though the inoculation of 30 lakh senior citizens and people with comorbidities will start in the coming weeks, the civic body hasn't yet managed to complete 50 per cent of the Phase I vaccinations.

On Thursday, 1,152 healthcare workers and 4,731 frontline workers received their first dose of vaccine. About 3,354 healthcare workers got their second dose. While all the vaccination centres can inoculate about 11,200 people daily, only 9,237 received their doses on Thursday. However, the BMC continues to cite the glitches in the CoWIN app as a reason for the slow pace of vaccinations. The civic body said that some of the beneficiaries could not be vaccinated due to the technical problems.

Up till now, 17,111 healthcare workers have received their second dose, which is less than 50 per cent of the number of doses given in the first 11 days of the drive. Out of the 37 centres, only Kasturba hospital administered doses more than its capacity on Thursday. About 584 people received the jab at the hospital.

Up till now, 2.09 lakh doses have been given. Out of this, 1,92,040 people have received their first dose, including 1.05 lakh healthcare workers and 87,000 frontline workers. Three more private hospitals, Kohinoor, Raheja and Global will start new vaccination centres from today.
