Following a warning by the Bombay High Court, the BMC, last week, announced that it was developing a new mobile app to record complaints of air pollution. However, the app will take at least two weeks to launch.

The BMC declared on February 4, after a hearing at the High Court (HC) on air pollution, that citizens will get a facility to register complaints about air pollution through the ‘Mumbai Air' mobile app. The corporation said that the mobile application would soon be available on Android and IOS. "The app is in beta, which means it is available for selected members on a trial basis before launching it for public use. It will take a few more days to launch it on IOS," said an official from the BMC.

HC had directed the BMC to develop a website and mobile application for air pollution complaints in Mumbai during the hearing of a PIL. As per the court order, BMC started to develop an app ‘Mumbai Air' on Android. Citizens can file complaints using this application. The app will also provide the facility to file ward-wise complaints. Initially, this application will be available on the Android platform. The IOS version will take a few more days.

While filing a new complaint, the nature of the complaint, details, location, street name, name of the department, photograph (photos) related to the complaint, etc. should be filled in. The details of the action taken on each complaint can also be seen by the users on the mobile app. The option of verification at various stages has been provided to follow up on the complaint through the website/web portal. All the complaints from the last six months can be viewed through the mobile application. Also, the classification of complaints can be seen on the dashboard for redressal of complaints.
