After Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal gave his nod, the Byculla Zoo is set to reopen on Monday. The corporation has appealed that senior citizens, pregnant women and children below five years of age should avoid visiting amid the pandemic. The zoo had been closed down in the lockdown that began in March 2020. The corporation decided to reopen it and the commissioner gave his approval on Friday.
Entry will be subject to some rules. The use of masks will be mandatory and vehicle owners will be allowed to enter only after disinfectant is sprayed on their vehicle's wheels near the gate. People have been asked to not crowd at the entrance and near animals' enclosures. The civic body has also asked people to not touch barricades or glass. The facility to store goods/materials has been closed temporarily amid the pandemic. The aquatic birds' exhibition near the main entrance will remain temporarily closed as a precaution.
