Mumbai: Covid-19 cases rise significantly, TPR climbs to 1.5 per cent

Mumbai records three new fatalities; state’s daily Covid-19 infections continue to increase

Daily cases in Mumbai have been hovering around 500, and rose significantly on Wednesday. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) latest report, the city recorded 481 fresh infections, up from 425 the day before. A total of 31,638 tests were conducted throughout the day.

The rising trend can also be witnessed in the daily figures of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), which is reporting 40 per cent of the state's total cases.

The test positivity rate (TPR) in the city also increased, but slightly, to 1.5 per cent Wednesday. Mumbai's total COVID-19 fatalities rose by three. Of the three deceased patients, two had comorbidities. One patient was aged between 40 and 59 years, and two others were senior citizens.

The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, after 461 people recovered and were discharged on Wednesday.

The state health department confirmed 2,219 new cases across Maharashtra and 49 deaths. On Tuesday, the state registered 2,069 new cases, which had fallen below 2,000 on Monday.

Maharashtra's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent. A total of 3,139 patients were discharged on Wednesday. Currently, the state has 29,555 active cases.

The MMR recorded 915 cases, including the ones reported from Mumbai. Daily cases in other areas of the MMR are also on the rise. Apart from Mumbai, Thane city reported the maximum number of cases in the MMR at 82, followed by Navi Mumbai at 73 and Kalyan Dombivli at 63. Raigad reported 65 cases, Panvel 36 and Mira-Bhayandar 18 cases.

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered nine deaths. Thane district reported six deaths, Ulhasnagar one and Raigad two.
