Daily COVID-19 tally continues to climb in both the state and the city. Fresh number of cases touched 7,000 in Maharashtra on Sunday, and is inching closer to 1,000 in Mumbai. Seeing the upward trend, the government and the civic corporations have started to strictly impose COVID-19 precautionary measures.
The state on Sunday recorded 6,971 new cases of novel Coronavirus, with 921 of them from the city. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli corporations, too, have been seeing a surge. Thane Municipal Corporation reported 177 new cases, Navi Mumbai 123 and Kalyan-Dombivli 150.
The number of COVID-19-related deaths, however, remained stable in the state, with 35 new casualties, taking the total toll to 51,788. According to the state health department officials, in the MMR, Mumbai reported the highest deaths at six, followed by two in Navi Mumbai, and one each in Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation and Mira-Bhayander corporation.
However, according to the BMC's data, four COVID-19 casualties were confirmed on Sunday. Of these four deceased, three patients were suffering from other ailments and two were senior citizens, said officials.
The state's recovery rate has dropped and now stands at 94.96 per cent, with 2,417 patients being discharged on Sunday. Mumbai's recovery rate stands at 94 per cent while the doubling rate has further dropped to 346 days. The city has so far reported a total of 3,19,128 cases, with 7,276 patients currently undergoing treatment.
The mortality rate in the state was 2.47 per cent as of Sunday. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state stands at 1,193. This included patients who were COVID-19-positive and then tested negative, but later died of other complications.
Meanwhile, more than 1.57 crore of laboratory samples have been collected state-wide, out of which over 21.008 lakh have tested positive, with 13.36 per cent positivity ratio.
