Mumbai: Fire breaks out in 20 shops in Kurla; none hurt

A fire broke out in around 20 shops where scrap material and vehicle spare parts were kept in Kurla area of Mumbai on Wednesday, the BMC said.

As per the information received by the disaster management department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire brigade received a call at around 2.30 am about the blaze in the shops located near a bus depot in Kapadia Nagar. No injuries have been reported.

The fire was confined to the electric wiring and installations, scrap material and vehicle spare parts in an area of 400 to 500 square feet in 20 to 25 shops, according to BMC.

Eight fire engines and other fire fighting equipment were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused by around 8.30 am, a civic official told PTI. The cause of the fire is yet not known.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a ground-plus-two-storey building in an industrial estate in Marol Naka area of suburban Andheri on Tuesday evening. There were no reports of anyone getting injured.

The fire broke out in building number 5 at Mittal Industrial Estate on Andheri-Kurla road around 4.45 pm. A senior civic official told PTI in night that the fire was covered from all sides and controlled but not doused completely.
