Mumbai: Gas cylinder explosion causes fire in Bandra; 8 injured

A fire broke out in Bandra following a gas cylinder explosion on Saturday morning and eight persons sustained injuries. According to the preliminary information received, the incident happened on the Gazdhar Band Road in Fitter Galli around 6.20 am.

The incident was reported by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Mumbai Fire Brigade.

The fire, as per the official update, was confined to a structure spanning 10 x 10 feet on the ground floor with an upper floor, primarily affecting the electric wiring, electric installations, and a stock of clothes due to the explosion of an LPG gas cylinder.

The firefighters responded to the blaze swiftly and managed to extinguish it by 6.40 am. As a result of the incident, five individuals sustained injuries due to burns.

Information gathered from the concerned Assistant Medical Officer at Bandra Bhabha Hospital revealed the details of the injured. Nikhil Das, aged 53, sustained 35 per cent burns from the incident, while Rakesh Sharma, aged 38, and Shan Ali Zakir Ali Siddiqui (31) both suffered 40 per cent burns. Meanwhile, two others - Anthony Paul Thengal (65) and Kalicharan Majilal Kanojiya (54) - sustained 30 and 25 per cent burn injuries respectively.

All five individuals are reported to be stable and have been admitted to the male surgical ward for treatment.

However, in a later update the agency said that three more persons were injured due to the incident. Of them, one has refused hospitalisation; she was identified as Seeta, aged 45. Meanwhile, Samsher, aged 50, has been admitted to surgical ward for facial burns while another woman Sangita, aged 32 has been admitted to Orthopaedic ward for minor injuries.
