With COVID-19 cases in the city seeing a constant rise, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said that it was a cause for worry. During a press briefing on Tuesday, she further mentioned that if people did not follow social distancing rules, wear masks and use hand sanitisers, then the government would be forced to think of a second lockdown.

She added that with the trains being opened up for the general public, constant vigil was being maintained to ensure that the cases don't go up further.
The Mayor further said that if there was no other way to curb the growing numbers, they would be forced to take drastic measures. Daily COVID-19 cases in the city have been over 500 for the last six days and even the state has seen a rise of over 3,000 cases daily.
She added, "Our chief minister and deputy chief minister along with the health minister are reviewing the situation closely. Many are still not following the three rules to avoid the spread of COVID-19. If the numbers continue to rise, the state may think of a second lockdown."
The Mayor also hinted that with cases on the rise, the reopening of schools may be delayed.
She said, "We were considering the reopening of schools in the next three-four days but even that is now being reviewed and may have to be postponed even further."
