Tansa Lake, which supplies water to Mumbai, overflowed on Wednesday evening at 4 pm. Water storage in all seven lakes increased by 17 days in just 24 hours. Water stock on Wednesday was at 58.13 per cent, with three gates of the dam open.
According to the data, after continuous rain, Tansa Lake overflowed in the afternoon. The catchment area of all seven lakes received more than 60 mm of rain in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday morning. The highest rainfall was recorded in Upper Vaitarna Lake, with 115 mm. Water stock in Vihar Lake reached 93.14 per cent. Tansa Lake, located in the Shahpur district in Thane, supplies nearly 400 million litres of water to the city.
The daily water supply in the city is 3,950 million litres. Due to water shortage, the city has been facing a 10 per cent water cut since June 5, 2024. Tulsi Lake overflowed on July 21, 2024, and Tansa Lake overflowed on July 26, 2023. In 2022, the lake overflowed on July 14, and in 2021, it overflowed on July 22. The total capacity of Tansa Lake is 1.45 lakh million litres.
