The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Wednesday, attached the property of Thacker's for tax dues of Rs 7 crores. Thaker's is popular for its authentic Gujarati food and is located in the premises of Birla Krida Kendra.
The officials pasted notices at the property as a drive to recover taxes from violators, reports Times of India.
With an outstanding of almost Rs 20,000 crore BMC is facing severe cash crunch this year. Therefore, if the violators fail to pay the outstanding taxes, their properties will be auctioned.
"We had issued notices but the tax was not paid, so we will attach the property till the tax is paid. If it is not paid, we will auction the property," said Dr Sangeeta Hasnale, assistant municipal commissioner, assessment and collection.
