Slight dip in Mumbai’s fresh Covid-19 cases at 1,946

On March 14, the city reported 1,963 cases after which the daily cases continued to surge till April. On May 11, Mumbai reported 1,717 new cases and saw a significant rise on May 12 with 2,116 new cases.

After a rise in new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, Mumbai witnessed less than 2,000 cases on Thursday. As per the BMC's daily report, the city recorded 1,946 new cases and saw 68 Covid-19 fatalities. The state, too, recorded lower cases at 42,582 as compared to Wednesday's 46,781 new cases.

Out of the 68 deaths on Thursday, 40 patients had comorbidities, 39 patients were above the age of 60 and 22 patients were in the age group of 40 to 60. Around 2,037 patients were discharged on Thursday and the city's recovery rate is constant at 92 per cent. The doubling rate has improved and now stands at 189 days.

Maharashtra saw a slight drop in new cases but a rise in the total number of deaths. On Thursday, 42,582 new cases were reported along with 850 deaths across the state; 54,535 people recovered and got discharged. The recovery rate of the state is 88.34 per cent. Currently, the state has 5.3 lakh active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also reported a marginal drop in new cases at 5,953, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Raigad recorded 732 and Vasai-Virar recorded 714 cases - the maximum in MMR.

Thane recorded 342 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili recorded 611 new cases and Palghar recorded 421 new cases on Thursday. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 115 deaths, out of which Raigad reported six deaths, Thane eight, Palghar 17 and Panvel 13.
