Localities around the Mahapalika Marg, GT Hospital, Crawford Market and Marine Lines witnessed power failure at around 6.45 pm on Friday

The snag had even affected the street lights and traffic signals

A fault occurred at G T Hospital receiving station. The areas affected were Bombay hospital, G T Hospital, Kama hospital , commissioner office, MCGM head office  among others, said a statement by BEST undertaking, the civic body run power supplier for south Mumbai

The snag was caused at a 33 kilovolt (kv) feeder of city power discom Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking near Crawford Market

"The same location/area as yesterday (Thursday) experienced supply disruptions as a result of BEST's 33kv cable fault. The restoration work is being carried out by the BEST South team," a statement from Tata Power said

Our Engineers have to visit substations by overcoming Traffic during  evening peak hours. We have deployed staff for repairing cable fault immediately, the statement by BEST undertaking said

The power supply was restored in stages from 7:15 pm to 9:15 pm

The BEST undertaking added it has undertaken schemes for replacement of old cables and distribution automation for avoiding recurrence of interruptions

Mumbai, the financial capital of the country has an islanding system which generally ensures continuity in power supply
