The 40-year-old activist had initiated an indefinite hunger strike to address the Maratha quota issue; he sought issuance of  Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas. 

CM Eknath Shinde met Jarange in Navi Mumbai on Saturday morning after he called his strike off at midnight after the resolution of the issue. 

Jarange had been camping at Vashi along with thousands of supporters who joined his cause and turned up in large numbers.

The government on Friday had sent a newly-constituted delegation with a draft ordinance addressing the specific demands put forward by the activist.

One of the pivotal demands was the recognition of Kunbis as the blood relatives of Maratha community members, leading to a subsequent government notification affirming this recognition.

The Kunbi community, identified as an agrarian community, falls under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.

Initially planning to stage the hunger strike at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai, Jarange's decision to camp in Vashi facilitated direct engagement with government officials.

Jarange announced the conclusion of his agitation on Friday as the government addressed all his demands.

In a fresh demand, Jarange had urged the government to amend its free education policy, ensuring inclusion for all Marathas until the benefits of reservation become universally accessible within the community.
