The maintenance work spans a 63-hour period over the weekend, from Friday to Sunday. During this time, 72 long-distance trains and 930 local trains will be affected.

The primary purpose of these mega blocks is to widen platforms at key stations like Thane and extend platforms at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), to accommodate the increasing number of passengers.

Central Railway has announced the cancellation of 72 mail-express trains and 930 suburban trains, affecting both the mainline and harbour corridors. CR plans to cancel a total of 930 suburban train services, with 161 on Friday, 534 on Saturday, and 235 on Sunday, at CSMT and Thane stations.

Passengers are advised to travel only if necessary during this period of disruption. Additionally, alternative transportation options such as additional bus services provided by organizations like Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) are encouraged.

To alleviate the inconvenience caused by train cancellations, BEST plans to operate 254 extra bus services on nine routes with 43 additional buses during the mega block period.

While Friday's services are expected to be relatively unaffected due to platform widening at Thane, significant disruptions are anticipated on Saturday and Sunday, particularly affecting suburban train services.

During the mega block, several trains will be short-terminated and short-originated from stations like Wadala, Dadar, Thane, Pune, Panvel, and Nashik to manage the flow of passengers.
