Following close on the heels of the death of a child after he was mauled by stray dogs, another four-year-old girl hurt in an attack by a pack of strays yesterdayAs if to add to the already burgeoning woes of the BBMP and residents of the city, another dog-bite incident was reported yesterday. Renuka (4) stepped out of her home to answer nature's call and was attacked by a pack of strays involved in a dog-fight.
The incident occurred at Ranka Colony at Bannerghatta Road, which has 300 sheds housing construction workers. The victim and her father Basvaraj moved from Bidar to the city for work three years ago.u00a0
The victim was rushed to the nearby BBMP Hospital in Bilekhalli and first aid was administered. Fearing the wrath of her voters due to dog menace, local Corporator Roopa Ramesh said, "Today's incident has alerted us and I have now instructed the health officials to take action. Stray dogs will be caught soon and the Animal Birth Control (ABC) is yet to take off."
The health officials have been told by the corporator to keep a strict watch on hotels and meat shops in the area, and to penalize them if found violating the law. Violators will have to cough up a fine of Rs 10,000, apart from cancellation of their trade licenses.
Basvaraj and his wife said that they live in fear everyday and from the past few days, they have been hearing stories of dog bite incident. Unfortunately, their child ventured outside alone and fell prey to what they feared.
The neighbors also stated that they live in constant danger and dread walking alone during the early morning and late at night. construction worker Ramanjenya, said, "I keep a lathi with me when I go out doors just to keep the dogs away from me."
