With the monsoon looming large, ensuring proper drainage and filling potholes shouldu00a0 have been among the topmost priorities for newly elected BBMP corporators.
However, for Dr S Raju, a corporator from Hosahalli, the priorities are a bit different. He wants to purge his ward of the monkey menace that's been troubling locals for a long time.
Dr Raju has set a three-month deadline for himself and is working on eradicating the menace.

"It's my first priority. My voters are facing a lot of problems due to the monkeys," said Dr Raju. The corporator invited experts from the BBMP wildlife cell to educate locals about the ways in which they can keep the monkeys away.
Sharath Babu R, Bangalore's chief wildlife warden, said, "He is the first corporator to take up this issue, which is quite appreciable."
He added that Dr Raju is also concerned about the monkeys and wants to get rid of them without harming them.
Also, he plans to carry out a similar exercise in the future to curb menace of stray dogs. Dr Raju has asked the wildlife experts to prepare a pamphlet that would provide tips to locals on dealing with monkeys.

Raju plans to distribute theu00a0 pamphlets across his ward himself. While the corporator's initiative has been well received by most locals, there are people who believe there are more important issues that deserve Raju's attention.
Mahesh H, a local resident, said, "Due to faulty stormwater drains, the area gets flooded during rains. As the monsoon has almost arrived, this is a problem that should be solved first."
