What do you do if you forget your chaddi buddy's birthday and need to save face, fast? You head to Ak's Bakers & More, the two-week old addition to Bandra's string of patisseries. The bright red fau00e7ade of the bakery wedged in between 16th and 33rd Road, promises to make cakes within 15 minutes. Your luck however, depends on the availability of products, which we discovered applies to everything the place stocks.u00a0

The Baked Vada Pav (Rs 15) is a house speciality. pics/Mehjabeen Jagmag |
The all-vegetarian menu is exhaustive breads, tea-time snacks, cakes, farsan, muffins, pies, pastries, chocolates, cookies, biscuits, brownies and diet food. The place is tiny with a little kitchen at the back, so, there's hardly any room to sit down and enjoy your snack. Pack and go, we suggest.
We tried: We asked for a Bailey's Cheesecake and Cranberry Muffin, but both were not available that day. A quick scan of the shelves and we settled for a Chocolate Chip Brownie, Sugar Donut (Rs 25), Chocolate Cookie (Rs 15) and the Bakers & More' speciality Baked Vada Pav.u00a0
Low fat and health benefits aside, the Vada Pav priced at Rs 15 lacked the raste ka punch. The Chocolate Chip Brownie (Rs 40), generous with choco-chips, was deliciously soft.u00a0u00a0
With most of the pastries priced between Rs 30 and Rs 60 and cakes available at Rs 250 onwards, this is a good value-for-money snack joint. Weight-watchers can go for low-fat options that include Soya Balls and Makai Strips that come packed in neat little boxes. All dishes are eggless. The attendants believe in service with a smile and readily offer samples to the undecided.
