Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda sends BMRCL into tizzy by saying Metro will be ready for inauguration by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sept 15Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, in a move to please the city, made a public announcement that the Reach I of the BMRCL would be ready for inauguration on September 15. Baffled by his statement, the BMRCL is suddenly being hounded with questions about the practicality of the deadline.
Full steam ahead? Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda (left) told the
press yesterday that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to
inaugurate the Metro on September 15. Pic/ Satish Badiger Sadananda had earlier said, "Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has agreed to inaugurate the Metro during the second week of September soon after his return from a two-day visit to Bangladesh. Tentatively, the inaugural ceremony will be held on 15 September."
With only 20 days to go before the promised deadline, Bangalore Metro is yet to approach the Commissioner of Railway Safety for completion of formalities. "The Bangalore Metro has not yet approached me for the safety inspection. They will have to send a formal letter first requesting for the inspection and only after we are through with the report, will we set a date," said Commissioner of Railway Safety D K Singh.
Safe to say?Further expressing his confidence in the BMRCL, Sadananda said that the Metro will launch its commercial services by September 15. "I will talk to Minister for Railways Dinesh Trivedi and ensure that the certificate is provided at the earliest," he added. While the CM has gone ahead with the announcement, the Bangalore Metro was not aware of the development.
"We have not received any statement from the chief minister's office, but we will try our best to do what we can. However, we cannot promise about the CRS inspection and the clearance dates," said B L Y Chavan, spokesperson BMRCL
