A first-time election candidate carrying his wealth around had his pocket picked while on the way to file his nomination in Chitradurga.
BJP candidate from Chitradurga, Janardhan Swamy, was carrying Rs 1 lakh though the deposit amount for a candidate is Rs 10,000 and in Swamy's case, it is Rs 5,000 since he belongs to the ST community.
On the way, he met his followers who cheered and surrounded him. Elated, he too mingled with his fans. When he went to file his nomination, he realised that the money was missing from his pockets.
Janardhan Swamy then had to borrow Rs 5,000 from social welfare minister D Sudhakar to pay his election deposit.
