Notorious criminal arrested by cops after hot chase in South Delhi

It had all the masalas of a Bollywood action potboiler. The trap laid by cops to nab a dreaded gangster, the hot chase, rounds of firing and finally, the arrest. But in this case, it was a real action sequence on the streets of south Delhi, during which Narender Bhatti, a dreaded criminal with a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was arrested by the police on Sunday night.

Twenty-eight-year-old Bhatti was wanted for the murder of the president of the Dadri Traders' Association.

According to the police, Bhatti, who was the pradhan of his village in Dadri, was arrested at Bhishma Pitamah Marg near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at around 10.30 pm on Sunday.

"Our team had information that Bhatti would be coming to the Kotla area to meet a contact. The information was developed and the team laid a trap to catch him. The team spotted and intercepted him but sensing the police ploy, Bhatti abandoned his motorcycle and ran towards a nearby hostel close to the stadium. He also opened fire at the chasing police party twice. The police retaliated and eventually, overpowered him," said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (South). He added that an automatic USA-made 9 mm pistol with two live and two used cartridges, and three live cartridges of a .315 bore pistol were recovered, besides the stolen motorbike Bhatti was riding.

Gangster

Bhatti was the leader of the notorious Ravana gang. Last week, the gang was involved in the murder of Vinod Goel, the president of the Traders Association, Dadri.

He was involved in around 28 criminal cases and had managed to escape three police raids. "He was arrested for stealing cars from Faridabad and Dadri twice. He was released from jail in June. After his release, he went to his village and started making extortion calls to businessmen," said a senior police official.
