Delhi scooted indoors once again as the fear of a bomb blast at Connaught Place spread like wildfire late on Monday night. As the police cordoned off two highrises in the area and evacuated nearby offices, Delhiites panicked, fearing another serial bomb attack.u00a0

Fortunately, it was only a mock drill being conducted by the police department and other security agencies to prepare themselves for a similar emergency. As the drill started at around 11 pm near Barakhamba Road, bringing alive spectres of the September 13 serial blasts in which the area had been targeted, bystanders ran helter-skelter. A little later, cars and autorickshaws could be seen slowing to check the commotion.

Around 50 Delhi police commandos along with the local police were pressed into action. "The drill was conducted by the deputy commissioner of New Delhi district. We conduct these drills to check our security preparedness," said a police officer.
