Police dispatch teams to catch notorious criminal Mahakali, whose aide called on mobile of constable arrested for kidnapu00a0

Police constable Amol Khude, arrested on charges of kidnapping a pickpocket for ransom and for having links with notorious criminal Rakesh Dholakia alias Mahakali, was suspended yesterday and a departmental inquiry was launched against him.
Khude was attached to the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of the city police. He was arrested under Section 364 of the Indian Penal Code by the Dehu Road police from the Ramabai Nagar slums in Ravet on Saturday.
Six cops injuredAnother 28 people from the slums were arrested for pelting stones at the police, who had gone to arrest Mahakali and his aides. The mob also opened fire on the police when they fired some rounds in the air to bring the situation under control.
Five constables and a sub-inspector were injured in the firing.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Economic Offences) Rajendra Dahale said, "Khude was immediately suspended.
A departmental inquiry has been ordered against him to look into his alleged links with the criminals."
Police Inspector Nitinkumar Gokave of Dehu Road police station said, "Four teams have been sent out to catch Mahakali, who is on the run since Friday. The teams are looking for Mahakali in areas like Chinchwad, Nigdi and other pockets where he is likely to be holed up."

following t a call at 3 pm about a dispute that was on between the two men in Ramabai Nagar.
After he was brought to the police station, Khude told the police that he was a constable with the EOW of the city police. Imran told the police that Khude had kidnapped him for ransom.While the interrogation was on, a call was received on Khude's cell phone, and it was discovered to be from an aide of Mahakali, from whom Khude had allegedly sought help.
After tracing the location of Mahakali and his other associates, a police team reached the Ramabai Nagar slums at about 8.30 pm. Some residents of the area and supporters of Mahakali then pelted stones at the police party, in retaliationu00a0 to which the police fired a few rounds in the air.
