Eight-year-old boy was undergoing treatment after brain tumour surgery
Even young boys are no longer safe in 'rape Capital'. In a shocking incident, an eight-year-old boy was allegedly sexually harassed by a senior surgeon in AIIMS, the country's premier hospital.
The student of class I recently underwent brain tumour operation. The accused, Dr Shijoy, works in the neurology department of AIIMS. AC Ammimi, the chairman of the committee that addresses sexual harassment cases at the hospital, is looking into the matter.
The victim's family is yet to approach the police. "We have not received any complaint from the victim's family yet. We will take action after the family approaches us," said a senior Delhi Police official.
A source posted with AIIMS said that the victim, Narender (name changed), is a resident of Shahdara in East Delhi. His was admitted on January 18 by his father Gurudatt Sharma, a businessman. Narender underwent a successful brain tumour operation on January 20 and was discharged four days later.
"But on January 23, the surgeon took the boy inside a room in the hospital. He made him sit on a chair and removed his trouser. The surgeon then allegedly harassed the victim and warned him not to report the incident. Else, Dr Shijoy threatenedu00a0 he would not let the boy get discharged," the source added.
However, the boy narrated the entire incident to his mother the next day who in turn informed her husband. The family then approached the sexual harassment committee of AIIMS.
"According to complaint, Dr Shijoy has been accused by the family of the victim. The sexual harassment committee is looking into the matter,' said the source.

Speaking to MiD DAY, the victim's father Gurudatt Sharma said that he approached the police post at AIIMS but instead of lodging an FIR, they sent him to a senior medical official of AIIMS. |
