Think a mish-mash of folk, Indian, flamenco and jazz, all on the same set. Music as fine as it can get, and as diverse as Delhi could imagine. Such is the aura that surrounds the performance by virtuoso guitarist Giuliano

Modarelli in town today. The fusion icon, who is all geared up for his East Meets West concert, is also composing for a Hindi film called The Diamond Murders.


Maestros meet

A project of Giuliano, the show will see the Italian artist collaborating with santoor maestro Sandip Chatterjee, mridangam artist N Shankar and the highly accomplished tabla player Soumen Sarkar. "Giuliano is a guitarist unique in his style. He is fluent with several genres of music," says Angela Trezza, director of the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre.u00a0

So far so good
The performance will take cue from rich Indian music while combining it with original compositions and improvised versions from different parts of the globe.u00a0 Get ready to hear tunes from unknown territories of world folk, with and added contemporary punch.

Who's Giuliano Modarelli?
A modern guitarist, Modarelli, studied jazz and then came close to Indian classical music while studying under sitarist Dharambir Singh. He is known for presenting a superb unification of world folk, Arabic, flamenco and Eastern-European. He's also known for his skills in improvisations of tunes and ragas. He has travelled with the acclaimed fusion band Raga Nova. In 2006, he performed at the world music festival, Music Port, with another fusion band Samay. The virtuoso guitarist has also teamed up with tabla player Bickram Ghosh to compose for Little Zizou, a Mira Nair production, which stars Boman Irani, John Abraham and Kamal Sidhu.
