LA-based musician Sanjay Divecha is back home to tell WHAT's ON about why his album is called Full Circle
Guitarist-cum-composer Sanjay Divecha is a popular name on the Los Angeles music circuit and dabbles in Jazz, R 'n' B, Brazilian, African and Indian music. WHAT's ON caught him for a chat before his performance at High Spirits tonight.
Full Circle took three years to complete. It is a collection featuring various styles of music including rock, folk, African, Brazilian and Indian music. I have composed, arranged and produced the album that features over 25 Indian artists.
Why call it Full Circle?
I began learning music early when I was in India, before i moved to Los Angeles where I lived for 15 years. That's where I established my career as a musician. When I got back, I started work on the album. It was coming back home, back to square one.
What can we look forward to in your performance tonight?
I will be playing numbers from my album, with the band that includes Ranjit Barot (drums), Karl Peters (bass), Vivek Rajgopal (percussion) and Rajeev Sunderasan (vocals).
How is the LA audience different from India's?u00a0
It depends on the venue where I am performing. Some events see educated listeners, somtimes not. For instance, it always feels good to play at festivals and concerts since you get a mature crowd. Playing at clubs or restaurants is ridden with disturbances. They are always awfully noisy.
At: High Spirits, next to ABC Farms, Koregaon Park Road Extension.
