Ravi Nair, a media professional and part-time dog breeder was arrested for poisoning his neighbour Logesh D's three-and-half-year-old Pug. The Kothanur police arrested Nair and he was subsequently released on bail.
Logesh and Ravi Nair, who breeds dogs as well, had reportedly become friends a year ago. Nair would take care of Logesh's dogs when he was out of town.
On May 5, Logesh's wife Vidya saw Nair putting his finger into their pregnant pug's mouth. A few minutes later, Nair left Logesh's house in a hurry. He told the couple that he had to attend to some urgent business.u00a0u00a0u00a0

"The pug reportedly began writhing in pain and suddenly stopped breathing. I called the doctor up and tried to revive it with artificial respiration but nothing helped. I immediately rushed him to the CUPA hospital where the doctor declared him dead on arrival,"
Logesh said.Logesh was shocked when the doctor who conducted a post-mortem on the dog told him that the pug had been poisoned with cyanide.
"This is the third instance where my dogs have been poisoned. I have reason to believe Nair is the one who killed the dogs. He had earlier tried to kill a Doberman. However, the dose was probably not strong enough to kill the animal, so it survived," said Logesh, who attributed Nair's behaviour to professional jealously.u00a0
"I breed a variety dogs and sell them at higher prices than Nair. He exacted his revenge by poisoning my dogs," said Logesh. While the officers at Kothanur Police Station refused to comment, Ravi Nair could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
