Gaymatchindia is a new free dating site for the LGBT community that keeps Indian audience in mind. But that apart, is India ready for a site that openly invites gay people to find matches?Ever thought you'd find a male, 24, wheatish, Roman Catholic looking for a male, 24, wheatish, preferably Roman Catholic on a matrimonials site? If you haven't, find them on gaymatchindia, devoted to homosexuals.
Aishwarya Kannan, project manager, GK Infopoint, stumbled on the site recently while playing Good Samaritan to one of her gay friends. "This friend of mine seemed to be having a really hard time finding a perfect match, and so I decided to go online and see what I could do. This site came up as the first option on a Google search."
We checked the site for a first-hand experience and were nothing short of surprised. The site, has unusual requirements listed out caste, gotra, language, community, religion and several other specifications, otherwise considered orthodox pre-requirements. It's obvious that the creators kept the Indian audience in mind.

Liberated and desi
"This is one of the most amazing sites I've come across. While it's hilarious to see how they've Indianised it, the fact that they have facilitated the meeting of lesbian women and gay men online must be commended. Will it end in a match and eventually marriage u2014 that's for law and time to decide but till then, the fact that it's so inclusive makes it one of a kind. Funnily, this will be one of the few lesbian dating sites in the country in an otherwise gay male-dominated scenario," says Krithika Ravi Kumar, an advertising professional.u00a0
"The existence of such a site only proves that tolerance levels are increasing in society and that someone's concerned about the homosexual minority. It goes to show that we're evolving, and is definitely a really cool site. My heartfelt appreciation to the anonymous brains behind the site," adds Aishwarya.
Wait and watch
Kaushyk Satish, editor, NEN, feels otherwise, "That they are a support system that any LGBT communityu00a0 should have is credible enough but we have to wait and see if it actually works. It's definitely a good option but a matrimonial site for an LGBT community? That's definitely a first. Are the community or society and law ready for one right now?"
