A major fire broke out at a boat factory in Rahatni around 5.30 pm last evening, destroying all the moulds.

According to Jagtap AD, asstistant fire-officer, the fire was massive because there were chemicals kept in the factory and it took 22u00a0 officers to get everything under control. The electricity in that area was disconnected for couple of hours for safety measures.
Sources said there were about 60 boats in the factory. The owner Sunny Sabastian said that although the boats were not damaged, the moulds to build the boats were completely destroyed. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. Another official said it was difficult to estimate the loss at this stage, but it could be about Rs 1 crore.
An onlooker said work was on in the factory till late afternoon. "Workers were inside the factory around 4pm. Suddenly, we saw the factory on fire and called for help. There were four private water tankers inside the building too."
PSI Jadhav from Kalewadi -Sanghvi refused to comment on the cause. "We are hearing different theories from people present here. But there are no casualties."
