Malad's Punjabi Tawa whips up the usual fare; tasty but with enough oil and spice to give your family doc an acidity attack. WHAT'S ON wishes they served Rajma-Rice dhaba-style Punjabi Tawa has opened at Link Road, Malad (W).
Punjabi Tawa is a hole-in-the-wall eatery alright, but the red floral shirt sporting paaji on a bright yellow signboard, makes sure it catches your eye.
Ambience: The hole in the wall eatery can accommodate only two tables. So, it's a good idea to carry a take-away or order-in.
Food: We scanned the menu for regular Punjabi favourites Sarson Da Saag, Makke Di Roti and Rajma-Rice. Don't look for them here because Punjabi Tawa serves restaurant-style Punjabi food, rather than dhaba-style authentic fare. It's all prepared with liberal doses of oil, cream, butter and spices.
Chicken Tandoori Masala (Rs 95), Paneer Tawa Masala (Rs 80), Chicken Tawa Lollipop (Rs 85) and Chicken Tikka (Rs 80) were finger-licking good. The Chicken Biryani (Rs 90) could have cut down on the oil andu00a0 spice, leaving it looking less menacing. The Chapatis (Rs 8 each) were chewy.u00a0 Vegetarians have limited options with only three dishes to choose from.
Service: The staff works on the double; we had to wait just 20 minutes for our order. They get bonus points for checking the items before handing it over to us.
At: Chincholi Bunder, opposite Evershine Mall, Link Road, Malad (W). Open from 6.30 pm to 12 am.
