Five members of a Haryana-based family have gone missing in Japan's Iwaki province, which was struck by last week's devastating earthquake and tsunami.

Narinder Singh, from Kurali village in Karnal district of Haryana, had migrated to Japan around 13 years back, his elder brother Keemti Lal said. Narinder runs a hotel in Iwaki and lives there with his wife Maria and three children - Yash (11), Major (7) and Marish (5).

"After seeing the news of this tragedy on television, I tried to contact my brother over the phone but it was switched off. I also talked to his friends there but they were unaware about his whereabouts," Keemti Lal said.

"I have contacted the Japan embassy in Delhi but they also do not have any information about Narinder and his family. I am in constant touch with Narinder's friends in Japan and with the embassy."

Narinder came home to Kurali about six years ago. According to Keemti Lal, many people have migrated to Japan over the last few years and several live in Iwaki, one of the areas affected by the 9 magnitude March 11 quake that killed an estimated 10,000 people and triggered fears of a nuclear meltdown.
