The Spice Market in Saket can claim to be the capital's new master of masalas, and we won't dare disagree!
The Spice Market takes its name seriously. The restaurant is lined with sacks full of Indian spices, quite like mirchi bazaars found in Indian cities. And the food here proves that these are not just for show.
Food
Indian spices are best savoured through starters, and this place gets this just right. If you don't have a particular preference, it would be best to go with the specialty. The Rajputana Sooley, with yoghurt and clove, are a must-have. If you like your food fiery, try the Pathar ke Kebab, made with the heady mix of cardamom and javitri. One thing that makes starters at this restaurant better than most of the fare widely available in Delhi is the marination, which makes the meat not only tender but inherently flavoured.
This also makes the main course better as the gravy adds to the flavour of the meat. You can try the Murg Lababdar that has rich gravy and succulent pieces of chicken and is a safe choice. Or, go in for Laal Maas, a Rajasthani preparation. Spice Market even offers some south Indian and Goan specialties. There are various rotis on offer and these are better than rice with most of the food on the menu do try the ajwain parathas.
The restaurant celebrates regional festivals with food, for example, during the Navratras, there was some good, authentic Gujarati food on offer.
