All is not well on the airwaves. Allotment of the same frequency has created a sense of confusion between two community radio stations.
The frequency 107.8 FM was allotted to Mumbai University students who started a radio station in 2008 by the name of MUST FM. However, the problem arose when the Wireless Planning Commission (WPC) allotted the same frequency to Union Park Residents Association's (UPRA) community radio station Jago Mumbai in 2010.
University's MUST radio station alleged that the Jago Mumbai still continued the test transmission on the same frequency that hampered the transmission of their radio station.u00a0
According to officials at MUST radio, the problem between two frequencies were noticed on May 1, when the university saw an advertisement of a community radio station named Jago Mumbai in one of the newspapers mentioning the same frequency.

Lot of disturbancePankaj Athavale, transmission executive of MUST radio, said, "For the past two years our frequency 107.8 FM has been functioning. We realised a lot of disturbance in the transmission from Bandra to Milan Subway. On May 6, we sent a letter to the Wireless Planning Commission (WPC) to change the frequency."
Athavale also said that they had requested the Khar residents to suspend their transmissions.
"We sent a letter to UPRA but they asked us not to communicate on the same matter, which is unethical," he added.
Athavale also commented that the issue had affected their listener base.
When MiD DAY asked WPC officials the possibility of sharing a frequency on the radio, an official on the condition of anonymity, said, "We have already changed the frequency of Jago Mumbai radio station and informed them of the same through a letter. They will receive the letter soon. "
However, chairman of Jago Mumbai radio station,Naveen Chandra was not available for comments.
