Crime Branch sleuths managed to avert the kidnap and murder of a businessman and nabbed two henchmen of gangster Ravi Poojary. The gang consisting of four, including two belonging to Poojary's gang were planning to kidnap and murder a city-based businessman, whose identity is being kept confidential for his safety, at an isolated spot near Binny Mills close to the Mysore-Bangalore road.

Partners in crime: Cops recovered some weapons, Rs 35,000 cash,
three mobile phones, nylon rope and roll of plaster from Mukka Baachuu00a0
and Anand Shetty

Based on information from the intended victim, police intercepted the gang and nabbed Mukka Baachu alias Bhaskar (28), and Anand Shetty (54), both notorious rowdies involved in two murder cases in Suratkal and Mangalore.

However, two other accused identified as Yeda Vasanth and Ganesh Bangera managed to escape. According to the police, they were acting on behalf of Poojary and wanted to murder him, since he refused to pay them protection money, despite being warned several times.

Modus operandi
They worked for Poojary and Nikhil Shetty, notorious underworld dons of Mangalore, collecting telephone number of businessmen across the state to pass on to their boss Poojary. "After Poojary identifies a target and calls, the gang used to shadow the target to collect details about movement, family members and associates on a daily basis, which was then used to intimidate the intended victim" said ACP, B N Nyamegowda.
