He would sell them to slaughterhouses for beef; villagers for breeding
Officials from the RT Nagar police station have arrested Sedeyan, for stealing cows and selling them for beef to slaughterhouses. They have been stealing cows for two years now, and occasionally sell them in rural areas for breeding as well.

Sedeyan had been supplying cow's milk, so his neighbours never suspected him because he had cows of his own. To make ends meet, he bought a tempo, and came in contact with slaughterhouse owners, and started supplying old cattle to them.
After a while, he realised that the owners never asked him any questions. He also figured, that if he sold them stray cows, no one will ever come to know. He knew that many cow owners left their cows for grazing on the roads.
Sedeyan then asked his eight-year-old son Sanjay (name changed) to round up any stray cow, and bring it home. The boy followed his father's instructions to the letter. At the same time, Sedeyan was also bringing stray cattle in his tempo.
After a while, owners of these cows started getting suspicious, and filed complaints with the police. Cops took it seriously, and on October 19, beat cops spotted Sanjay with cattle, and asked him where was he going.
The boy truthfully told them about how his father had instructed him. The cops them followed Sanjay home,
and arrested Sedeyan, who confessed.
Dhanalaxmi, a constable from RT Nagar police station said, "We have recovered a cow worth Rs 40,000, and have sent Sedeyan to judicial custody. The stolen cow count is high, but since he sold cows to slaughter shops and rural people for breeding, it will be impossible to recover them."

| The state government proposed a bill on anti-cow slaughter on March 19, 2010 and submitted the same to the governor for his consent. Since there was a large-scale protest against the bill, the governor forwarded it to the president for consideration. The bill is still awaiting president nod. |
