Mumbai IPL blast scare: DY Patil security upped for final

After the blasts near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore yesterday, ahead of the IPL match between the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, the Mumbai Police has increased security for the April 24 and 25 matches at the D Y Patil Stadium in Nerul. The final is to be held on April 25

"We are increasing the bandobast near the area and higher security measures will be implemented," said Gulabrao Pol, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner. Prior to the opening ceremony at the same stadium on March 12, around 2,000 policemen and Anti-Sabotage Quick Response team officials had been deployed for security.u00a0

An additional three companies of the State Reserve Force and armed commandos were deployed during the event. Police added that three layers of security -- outer, middle and inner -- have been created to ensure no untoward incident takes place. Private security guards will also be deployed in large numbers. The police have requested spectators to avoid private vehicles and use public transport. The IPL committee has written a letter to the railways requesting them to increase the frequency of trains on the harbour line and to attach additional coaches.
