Shaun (lead guitar and vocalist), Nariman (second lead guitarist), Sarosh (female vocalist) and Jango (bass guitar).
front row: Pranav (keyboards) and Vivaan (drums and percussion)

Sixteen and already a rockstar. That must be quite a high, you'd think. But, it's a lot more hard work over drugs and sex, if you were juggling college lectures, rehearsals, composing originals, and trying to out-win "older", more experienced bands. But, Vivaan Kapoor, drummer with One Track Mind, shrugs off any intimidation, with a simple, "Nah," and in fact goes on to tell us about the group's win at Distortion '08, an all-India rock band contest.

"The eliminations were held at Not Just Jazz By The Bay in November, and we were short-listed from among 30 other bands, to compete at the finals in December at Hard Rock Cafe. We eventually won the finals too."

Vivaan may not be able to explain what set them apart from the rest since they, like many other Indian teenage bands, perform cover versions of Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Phil Collins. But, it could be the dedication that has landed them their first gig at Hard Rock Cafe's Live Thursdays, tonight.u00a0

The two year-old band Shaun (lead guitar & vocalist), Nariman (second lead guitarist), Pranav (keyboards), Sarosh (female vocalist), Jango (bass Guitar) and Vivaan (drums and percussion) meet at Pranav or Jango's residence, after wrapping up lectures at their colleges, and have composed 3 originals so far; one of them has already been recorded. "Shaun gives a few riffs, then Jango works on the bass, and the rest follow.

Vivaan has been playing the drums since he was 5 years old; we don't have a dedicated song-writer, but we manage," says Vivaan. The rest are also self-taught. "I am prepping for the second phase of the Trinity London Rock School of Music exam, but that's about it," he adds.u00a0
