WHAT's ON dropped in at a shop on MG Road that sells quirky artefacts to add some spunk to your home

Homesmith on MG Road is for those who wish to add an artistic touch to their interiors. The shop offers ethnic art deco products with a contemporary look alongwith an assortment of traditionally-crafted showpieces in brass, cane, wood, jute and copper. The products are easy on the pocket and there is something for everyone.

The bulk of the clientele comes from students who are crazy about the products.u00a0

Ambience: It doesn't offer much in terms of ambience as it is crammed with various knick-knacks that occupy all the walls.

Range: The items on display are hand-picked from regions such as Moradabad, Ladakh and Jodhpur. You can shop for table tops, wall hangings, door knockers, sheeshas, key chain holders, table fountains, antique locks, chests, telephones, sun dials, lamps and lucky charms. If some item catches your fancy, we advise you to buy it on the spot as they get sold out very fast.

We liked: The mini-bar set for wine made of wood and glass (Rs 2,850) has a barrel which can hold 500 ml to 600 ml of wine and a revolving panel that can hold four wine glasses. The wood and glass mixer (Rs 2,850) is ideal for a cocktail party and comes with two barrels and four glasses. You can fill the barrels with the liquor of your choice like tequila in one and brandy in the other. Check out the liquor cart carved out of wood with a glass barrel and two glasses (Rs 2,750) that can be used to dole out whisky shots. The wooden and metal guns (Rs 600 to Rs 1,100) have an antique look to them and can act as a lighter when you press the trigger. We loved the Victorian era station clock and the ship's wheel clock (Rs 1,800). They also have Tibetan document scrolls (Rs 800) with inscriptions in brass and copper and collectibles like the Maharaja phone, candle phone and wall phone. For the eco-friendly, they offer chatais made of river-grass which are available in various shades. They are trimmed with matching zari and decorated with dokra work. The Sa Re Ga Ma Bells (Rs 550) are made of iron, copper and brass and ring out the notes of Sa Re Ga Ma as they sway in the breeze.
