Faced with impossible demands, harassed husband files complaint against newly-married wife

Don't be taken aback, these are the demands of a newly-wed bride from Ahmedabad in Bangalore mentioned in the police complaint her husband filed, accusing her of harassment.

Mohammed Hussain, 25, has been married for just three months, but is already at his wits' end. Fed up of his bride's expensive lifestyle and demands, he tried to make peace by talking to her parents. But itu00a0 backfired his mother-in-law allegedly threatened him that she'd send goons down from Ahmedabad to thrash him if he didn't fulfil her daughter's demands.

Hussain, a resident of Cox Town, has now sought police protection from his wife and in-laws. "I have recorded the conversation with my mother-in-law, who threatened to send goondas from Ahmedabad to Bangalore to thrash me and my family," Hussain told the police.

Hussain married Zinobia on April 26 this year after seeing her profile on a matrimonial website. According to Hussain, the trouble started two days after the marriage when Zinobia started behaving rudely at a get-together with his friends. Hussain questioned her behaviour and since then she started behaving indifferently, he said, adding that she started wearing skimpy clothes and going out and staying late without informing him.

She also started making unreasonable demands, like asking for a fixed amount as pocket money, and insisting on being taken to five-star hotels for dinner.

"When I objected to her unreasonable demands, she threatened to file a dowry harassment case not only against me but my parents and sister too," said Hussain, who then decided to approach the police.

Frazer town police, which has taken up a case against Zinobia and her mother Nasreen Faruk for criminal intimidation, said that the case was unusual since harassment cases are usually filed by women.

"We have taken the audio recording from Hussain and are investigating," a police officer said.
