CCB investigators arrested three customs and excise officials in connection with stealing cigarettes from a leading manufacturerActing on a tip off, City Crime Branch (CCB) investigators have arrested three customs and excise officers in connection with stealing cigarettes of a reputed Indian brand from their factory.

Prakash has tole goods worth Rs 8.3 croreu00a0 since the past one yearThe trio have been involved in this racket since the past one year, and stole goods worth Rs 8.3 crore. Police recovered goods worth Rs 1.2 lakh yesterday, which they were trying to sell.
The arrested persons are Shivakumar (45), Thomas (54) and Prakash (52). They would visit the factory, saying that they were customs officials, and steal cartons of cigarettes.
They would sell these later to wholesale dealers for a lesser price. The police are searching for these dealers, and an official said that more arrests would be made soon.
ACP BN Nyamagouda confirmed the arrest and said, "We have been keeping an eye on these three for the past two months, and finally arrested them yesterday morning. There are more officials involved in the scam, and we shall arrest them soon."
