In a new twist to the now-infamous coup, it seems that the entire episode was staged by the Congress and the BJP to upstage JD(S)

The Congress and the BJP are appearing to have teamed up to dump JD(S) by allowing Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to prove a clear majority again on October 14, and HD Kumaraswamy, the mastermind behind the political coup is not very happy about it.

Everyone was anticipating news from the Centre on Governor HR Bharadwaj's recommendation to impose a President's rule. But the shocker came in the afternoon yesterday from Bharadwaj, who offered a second chance to Yeddyurappa to seek a trust vote.

"Although it is not in the rule book, it is my friendly offer to the CM to prove majority without any ambiguity. This is because the House was not conducted properly, on Monday, when he sought a vote of confidence," said Bharadwaj.

The Speaker KG Bopaiahu00a0 had declared on Monday that the government had won the confidence vote amid a din in the House created by the Opposition. The Governor shot it down saying that disqualification of 11 BJP MLAS and five independent MLAs was not legal, and that the House was chaotic when the vote was passed.
While the Governor's new stand looked like a reprimand to the BJP government, the JD (S) state working president H D Kumaraswamy welcomed the move.

However, he was confused to see smiling BJP leaders, even after Bharadwaj's suggestion. He came to know about the alleged truce between BJP and Congress that resulted in the sudden development in the Rajbhavan, only after his father and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda alerted him. Gowda is understood to have chided his son for his political ignorance and the way he was falling prey to BJP and Congress to root out JD (S) in the state.

Then Kumaraswamy came rushing to Rajbhavan, while the Congress leaders were meeting the Governor in the evening. He was fuming when he came out.

"It is unconstitutional to allow the state government to go for a trust vote within a span of two days after it failed prove majority," he said. "When 16 members are illegally disqualified, how can they go ahead with it? It is against the constitution and basic principles of democracy. I condemn this."

Sources said that the Congress and BJP had come to an understanding at a national level, and had decided not to antagonise with each other. Moreover, senior Congress leaders are said to have realised that hobnobbing with JD(S) would no good to the Congress.

In the end, the governor wrote a letter to Yeddyurappa, asking him to seek a vote of confidence tomorrow, and the latter responded positively.

Siddaramaiah reprimanded

>>Sources said that the Congress high command has reprimanded Opposition leader Siddaramaiah for his dalliance with JD(S).
>>Siddaramaiah was proactive in hatching a plan with JD(S) to topple the government, and was seen with the 'ring leaders' when the Opposition created a ruckus in the house on Monday. He was even seen with the JD(S) leaders yesterday, discussing a further plan of action. >>Siddaramaiah slipped away after the meeting was over, and was not available to the media.
