Manoj alias Shridhar, a second year pre-university science student from BHS College, hails from a reputed family, said Kumaraswamy Layout police Inspector Babu Narohna.
"However, Manoj was addicted to cigarettes and alcohol. He also dated a girl from the same college," he said. When Manoj's father sensed he was acquiring bad habits, he stopped his pocket money. Manoj then allegedly resorted to stealing bikes to fulfill his girlfriend's never-ending demands.
He allegedly stole his first bike, a brand new Pulsar, from his college parking lot, changed its parts and sold it in Mangalore through his friend Aaradhya. But when the money ran out, and his girlfriend's demands grew, he stole another bike, a Bajaj Avenger. He stole seven bikes over five months, till his luck ran out and the cops caught him on his eighth attempt. They recovered all the bikes, worth Rs 3.6 lakh.
Narohna said, "A lavish life style and his girl friend made his life hell. It is bad for society when young ones enter the world of crime."
