A Lokayukta raid on a sub-inspector brought the skeletons tumbling out of the cupboard 300 pairs of new trousers and shirts and assets around Rs 1.3 crore.

Ramachandrappa, from the state excise department, was one of the seven officers raided by Lokayukta sleuths. He had joined service as a guard and was promoted to the post of SI.

Though Ramachand-rappa's official income is around Rs 20 lakh, he had amassed disproportionate wealth of around Rs 1.3 crore including a house built across two acres.


He used to rent out the palatial house, which covered 10 acres in Mandya, for film shootings and left his paternal uncle in the house as a caretaker. His uncle, retired schoolteacher Mayanna, initially claimed that the house belonged to him but later gave up.

The other trapped officials are:

Fakirappa B Chowhan, assistant commissioner of police, traffic, Hubli-Dharwad.
Income: Rs. 30,00,000; Assets worth: Rs.1,83,99,299

Ikram Pasha, inspector of motor vehicles, Bidar.
Income: Rs 18,00,000; Assets worth: Rs 80,00,000

A D Nagaraj, police inspector, Railways, Bangalore City
Income: Rs 28,00,000; Assets worth: Rs 74,80,000

Syed Mobin, assistant engineer, Karnataka Land Army, Gulbarga.
Income: Rs 33,00,000; Assets worth: Rs 1,20,52,150

Eranna, inspector of motor vehicles, Raichur
Income: Rs 45,00,000; Assets worth: Rs 3,56,51,000

Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde said the investigations and raids continued since there was more booty to be unearthed from tainted officials.
