Another addition to the already popular Basavanagudi and Ulsoor branches, The Rogue Elephant at Koramangala offers some interesting wine cocktails to go with fusion food

With a wish not to serveu00a0 run-of-the-mill food and a tagline of 'Food that's Simply Wicked', The Rogue Elephant Terrace Bistro at Koramangala is a new eatery to dine in a relaxed setting.

Even from the outside, it is hard to miss the caf ufffd with its jungle d ufffdcor and waterfalls. With potted plants that are up for sale and a winding wooden staircase that leads to the sitting area, The Rogue Elephant could easily remind you of a dimly lit tree house.

As we seated ourselves, we were given a menu that was too big for the table. However, the content of the menu was so tempting that we soon forgot about the size of the card. We noticed that unlike its other two branches, a large section of the menu is devoted to domestic and international wine and cocktails made out of it. Even the fusion dishes are listed keeping in mind that a glass of wine paired with it would enhance the taste.
With so many new names, we became confused and decided to seek advice. We were recommended to start off with the Classic Bellini (Rs 225) and Caribbean Fruit Punch (Rsu00a0 60). As starters we deiced to try out Mushroom A-La Kiev (Rsu00a0 150) and Shrimp Provencal (Rsu00a0 195).

Classic Bellini, sparkling white wine in peach flavour, was not too pungent and reminded me of candies while the Caribbean Fruit Punch (a mocktail) turned out to be a pleasant concoction of various fruit juices. But the starters were clearly the winners.

Mushroom A-la Kiev had bite-sized mushrooms coated with bread crumbs oozing with garlic butter melting in our mouths. Originating from Provencal, a region in southeastern France, the Shrimp Provencal was tossed in garlic butter, tarragon herb and tomatoes and was mild in taste bringing out the flavour of the shrimps.

Our main course arrived the moment we were done with our starters. My companion picked up Chicken A-la Rogue (Rsu00a0 335), a house specialty with pasta tossed in a creamy tomato sauce with a dash of vodka and herbs. What came was creamy penne pasta with a beautiful aroma.

My choice of Herb Roast Chicken (Rs 295) came in the form of two succulent breast portions sprinkled with herbs like thyme, rosemary, mustard cress and tossed in garlic and olive oil. Instead of mashed potatoes, I had opted for buttered herb rice that went well with the flavourful chicken, giving me a warm and full feeling.

Having heard much about the caf ufffd's desserts we decided to give the day's special Rum Bavoir (Rs 150), a try. The dessert turned out to be a creamier version of a mousse with chocolate, cream and rum. Not too sweet, it proved to be a fitting end to our meal and we left the place with the promise to be back again soon.
