Techies fail to make it to finals in Season 3 as college students put best voice forward, stranglehold of software professionals on popular singing competition set to end
Techies this year failed to make it to the finals of Voice of Bangalore (VOB), a popular singing contest now in its third season.
A tradition of techies winning the coveted title in seasons past will now be broken.
Six students from six different colleges will vie for the coveted title this season when the finals are held on October 10.
"For the first time in three years, techies are not in the race," said Nandish M R, manager, Garuda Mall, which hosts the show. "All of the finalists are students from colleges in the city."

Intense contestA talent hunt for the best male and female voices in the city, VOB kicked off this year in August and the competition is now in its final stage after eight rounds that witnessed over 6,000 singers putting their best voice forward.
"It was an intense contest this time," said Tarak Trivedi, one of organisers.
"Techies couldn't even make it to the quarterfinals this time, as college students performed extremely well."
Among the colleges that will be represented in the Season 3 finals are National College, Vijaya College and APS College.
Rich pickings
Director Yograj Bhat of 'Mungaru Male' fame, music director Mano Murthy and renowned singer Kunal Ganjanwala will pick the male and female Voice of Bangalore from among the six contestants remaining.
The winners will walk away with a Maruti Suzuki A star, diamonds worth Rs 35,000 and merchandise worth over Rs 50,000, besides receiving an offer to sing in a film.
"One of contestants, who sang in the semi-finals, has already got a chance," added Nandish. "Besides the coveted title, the winners will also get a chance to make their debut in the Kannada (film) industry."
No 'it' finalists Audition rounds were held in city-based IT companies, malls and more than 10 colleges, including RV dental college, PES engineering college, National college and RV engineering colleges. In contrast to Season 1 and Season 2, when techies had the upper hand over students and two to three software engineers were always there in the last stage, Season 3 of VOB has no techies in the finals. The finals of Season 1 and Season 2 had participants from IT companies such as Wipro, Infosys, Convergys and MICO Bosch.
