Forest officials have dumped mosquito nets and are instead using a caged dog as bait to trap a leopard on the prowl near the Bangalore University campus in Nagarbhavi.


"Dog meat is a leopard's favourite food," said Sharath Babu, advisor, BBMP wildlife cell. "When we tried to lure it with meat, it didn't turn up. We are now trying this."

Officials, along with 20 volunteers, have camped in Nagarbhavi to trap the leopard. They also believe this is the same animal that terrorised residents of Bharatnagar on Magadi Road last week. "It's the same leopard," confirmed a senior forest department official.

Theu00a0 volunteers have beenu00a0 trying to calm down panicky residents in and around Nagarbhavi and the university campus.

"We have camped here and round-the-clock surveillance is on," said Sharath. "People here have nothing to worry about as our volunteers are available day and night. We hope to trap the leopard soon."
